Prof. Dr. Michael Jünger
Partner and co-founder"oreas makes the scientific knowledge in the area of optimization available
for industrial applications. While scientific progress in business informatics
is quickly applied in practice, the exploitation of scientific knowledge in
optimization algorithm design that flourishes in Computer Science and Applied
Mathematics is still in its infancy, yet provides enormous potential.
oreas bridges the gap not by expecting its clients to understand the theory
but by studying their needs and develop solutions in their language, with
latest technology working behind the scenes for their profit."
Founded in 1999, oreas develops innovative software solutions for the
automatic layout of diagrams that visualize relationships between objects.
Such diagrams, also called graphs in mathematics, occur in various forms in practice:
- computer networks, social networks
- business processes
- database schemas
- software systems (e.g., UML class diagrams)
- organization diagrams
- data-flow diagrams

With the GoVisual libraries product line, oreas offers their customers state-of-the-art
diagram layout technology for integration into their own applications.
The layout methods provided range from established, reasonably priced standard techniques
to unique specialized algorithms like, e.g., for the automatic layout of
UML class diagrams. A wide range of supported platforms (C++, .NET, COM, Java)
and intuitive interfaces ensure an easy integration of the library.
The oreas team guarantees the high quality of GoVisual layout algorithms.
Prof. Dr. Michael Jünger (partner) and Prof. Dr. Petra Mutzel (partner)
are among the leading researchers in the field of graph drawing and operations research
for many years. In October 2000, Prof. Mutzel received the Alcatel SEL Research Award
Technical Communication for her work in the field of graph drawing. Today, she holds the chair for
Algorithm Engineering at the University of Dortmund. The foundation of the commercial software
was laid at the research center caesar in Bonn, where the oreas team constituted
the project group Graph Drawing. Currently, scientific research
is performed by the groups of Prof. Mutzel at the University of Dortmund and Prof. Jünger at the University of Cologne.

Graph drawing problems arising in practice rarely satisfy the assumptions made
by standard methods. In many cases, there are further requirements the created layout
must meet. The superior scientific and technical expertise of its team enables oreas
to develop tailor-made software solutions that fit the particular needs of a customer.
