GDE 1.3 released
by Carsten Gutwenger: Wednesday, August 09, 2006
Version 1.3. of the GoVisual Diagram Editor gives a first impression of the new layout algorithms available in the upcoming release of the GoVisual Software Library.
Besides the optimal coordinate assignment (with optional balancing of the layout)
in the Hierarchical Layout, already known from GDE 1.2, the next version of the
GoVisual Software Library will feature a completely new Symmetric Layout.
The main benefit of the new algorithm is its incredible speed: Even dense
graphs with several 10,000 nodes can be computed within short time – of
course without sacrificing quality! This is only possible by applying highly
sophisticated multi-level techniques. Oreas was able to hire one of the leading
developers of force-directed layout algorithms for very large graphs, who
integrated this complex algorithm into the GoVisual Library.
Further innovations in GDE deal with analyzing graphs. It is now possible to test
several graph properties like connectivity, 2-connectivity, acyclicity etc. Such
functionality is not only of interest for experts, but gives every user quick
insight into the structure of the graph. The new Analyzer can even test several
properties at once and produce a log output of the results.
All changes can be found in the Changelog.
Version 1.3 is currently only available for Windows systems, the Linux version is in
preparation. You can download the Windows version here.
