Reference material OREAS 17c was prepared from a blend of barren alkali olivine basalt from Epping, Victoria, Australia and gold-bearing Magdala ore from the Stawell Gold Mine, west-central Victoria, Australia. The Magdala lode is intimately associated with an intensely deformed package of volcanogenic sedimentary rocks. Mineralisation in the ore consists of a quartz-sericite-carbonate schist assemblage containing the sulphides pyrite and arsenopyrite. The major constituents of the alkali olivine basalt are feldspar, augite, olivine and titanomagnetite.
