OREAS 683b is a platinum group element (PGE) Certified Reference Material (CRM) prepared from a blend of high-grade PGE ore, with some nickel sulphide ore, and barren gabbro-norite. The principal PGE ore component was sourced from the Dishaba Mine Merensky Reef (South Africa), a well-known operation on the western limb of the Bushveld Igneous Complex. Additional PGE ores were sourced from the UG2 Reef. Minor amounts of komatiitic-hosted, high-grade Ni sulphide ores from the Leinster region (Western Australia). A small amount greenstone-hosted orogenic gold material from Kalgoorlie district (Western Australia) was also added. Fresh barren gabbro-norite rock was sourced from the Black Hill Norite Complex (South Australia).
OREAS 683b has been characterized using the following methods:
Certified values for applicable analytes are operationally defined for each method, with results under OREAS ISO 17034 scope of accreditation.
